The 2012 Grand Vitara comes in three trim levels ? Base, Premium and Limited. All are powered by a 2.4-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that puts out 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The Base trim features a 5-speed manual transmission, while the Premium and Limited come with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Drivers have 3 drivetrain choices: the standard rear-wheel drive, the optional four-wheel drive with a low-range transfer case on the Premium, and the optional four-mode 4WD system available on the Limited. Fuel economy ranges from 19 city/22 highway MPG on 4WD models up to 19 city/26 highway MPG on manual-equipped 2WD models. Standard Equipment and Options
Standard on the Base and Premium is a 4-Speaker AM/FM/CD/MP3 audio system with XM compatibility, while the Limited gets an Premium Audio System with seven speakers. All models have steering wheel-mounted audio controls and an auxiliary input for MP3 devices. Now there's never an excuse for getting lost with an integrated navigation system with Lane Assist and 3D graphic view, standard on all trims. Rounding out the list of standard features is remote keyless entry with panic button, power windows and door locks, tilt steering wheel, overhead console with sunglass storage, fold and tumble 60/40 rear seat, automatic climate control with Micron air-filtration system, rear passenger floor vents and three 12V interior accessory sockets (2 front, 1 cargo).
The Premium and Limited models come standard with cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls. Also exclusive to the Premium and Limited is a one year subscription to the nuLink! service, which incorporates weather, movie time look-up, airline arrive/depart info, lowest gas price finds, Google™ search and more. The Bluetooth hands-free communication system is optional on these two trim levels, as well.
Finally, on the top-level Limited trim, the luxury and comfort really start to compound. Roll around the block on eye-catching 18-inch alloy wheels. Bask in the sunlight and fresh air with one press of a button thanks to the power-and-tilt sunroof. The Limited trim also comes standard with a SmartPass keyless start and entry system that uses sensors to automatically detect the key fob. This allows you to unlock the doors with just the press of a button. Once inside, simply turn the ignition to start the engine, without ever having to rummage through a purse or your pockets for the key fob. Safety Features
The 2012 Grand Vitara comes with a multitude of standard safety features that will both assist in preventing accidents and reducing injuries when an accident is unavoidable. The list includes Electronic Stability Control with Traction Control System, antilock disc brakes, full-length side curtain airbags, and front-seat side-impact airbags. In brake tests, this SUV can go from 60 mph to fully stopped in only 110 feet, which is an astonishingly low number for a vehicle in this class.
