ABOUT THE CADILLAC CTS

Introduced in 2002 as a 2003 model, the Cadillac CTS was built on GM's new rear-wheel drive Sigma platform, and marked a return of RWD vehicles for the Cadillac brand. The first-generation CTS (in production through the 2007 model year) was only available in a 4-door sedan body style. It was also the first Cadillac to offer the option of a manual transmission (a five-speed Getrag 260) since 1988 (a five-speed 5L40-E automatic transmission was also available).

The first-generation CTS sported a fully independent suspension, and was originally powered by a 3.2L, 220hp V6 engine, which was eventually replaced by a 2.8L, 210hp entry-level engine and an updated 3.6L, 255hp DOHC V6 with VVT higher-end option. The Getrag manual transmission was replaced in 2005 with an Aisin AY-6 six-speed. In 2004, Cadillac rolled out the CTS-V, a high-performance version of the CTS sporting a 5.7L, 400hp V8 engine (upgraded to a 6.0, 400hp V8 in 2006) and a six-speed Tremec T56 manual transmission.

The second-generation CTS sports sedan debuted in time for the 2008 model year. For the 2009 model year, a two-door CTS coupe was introduced, followed a year later by a five-door CTS station wagon. A CTS-V variant for each body style was introduced in the model year subsequent to each accompanying CTS body style introduction. The current CTS sports a 3.6L V6 engine producing 318hp paired with a six-speed 6L50 automatic or Aisin AY-6 manual transmission, while the CTS-V is equipped with a 6.2L, 556hp V8 paired with a six-speed 6L90 automatic or Tremec TR-6060 manual transmission. All-wheel drive is available for CTS models equipped with automatic transmissions.
